Design Soup | Relieve pain, boost memory, and increase your sex drive!? Reply

Welcome back to Thirsty Thursday!  This week we are relieving migraines and menstrual pain, easing motion sickness, stomping out heartburn, boosting memory, aiding digestion, and increasing your sex drive with a super delicious Mango Ginger infused water!

Although we are not dieticians, MDs or such, and cannot personally back every health benefit claim above, we do know that drinking infused water is a healthy alternative to processed sugary drinks, carbonated beverages, and so on. Infused water not only tastes good, but can help us increase our daily vitamins and minerals, and reduce our intake of unnecessary calories.  It’s up to you to be the judge!

mangosMangos provide 100% of your daily vitamin C, 35% of your daily vitamin A and 12% of your daily fiber.

A ripe mango will give slightly with a gentle squeeze (see Chef Allen Susser’s video on how to select a mango). If you purchase a firm mango, you can ripen it at room temperature over a few days.  To speed up ripening, you can place mangos in a paper bag at room temperature. Once ripe, mangos can be moved to the refrigerator to slow down ripening for several days.

Ginger root contains no cholesterol and has essential nutrients and vitamins such as pyridoxine (vitamin B-6) and pantothenic acid (vitamin B-5).  For optimum essential oil benefits, select fresh ginger roots that are heavy, stout, juicy, and those that have a grey-yellow peel and are free from dark spots or mold.

 Mango Ginger Water

4 qt pitcher filtered water

1 inch ginger root, peeled and sliced

1 cup diced Mango

3 cups ice

Wash and rinse ginger root and mango.  Peel ginger root (vegetable peeler works great), slice ginger root into sections about the thickness of a coin.   Slice the mango.  Unsure what to do with a mango? Check out Chef Allen Susser’s How to Cut a Mango.  Place sliced ginger root and mango into water, top with 3 cups ice (ice helps hold down the ginger and mango and infuse the water). Refrigerate for 1-3 hours before serving.  Pour into a glass, add a slice of mango, Enjoy!
