There is nothing quite like spending time in the garden to clear the cobwebs of the mind and get your flower fix on. I call gardening my “green therapy”, a place where my senses can vacation in the world of color, sweet smelling fragrances, and plethora of textures.
Last weekend we visited my favorite horticultural go-to Vassey Nursery. . .a hidden gem here in the Puyallup valley most commonly known for their exquisite hanging petunia baskets – Ooo la la!
Ahhhh. . . Like a kid in a candy store it was hard to stay focused on the mission to find perennial colors and textures to liven up our dreary deck for summer enjoyment.
Embarrassing to admit, but this is one of our ugly blah containers left over from winter in need of a summer garden rescue. Not exactly a view you would want to see from inside your home!
What’s the view through your doors and windows? Remember, interior design marries beautiful views well beyond the interior walls . . . If you have blah, uninviting views, adding a spot of color will help liven up your outdoor spaces and enhance the views from inside your home.
We love container gardening because it is the perfect solution for small patios, decks, and balconies…anywhere you need a lift in color and textures.
I like to add a combination of heights, colors and textures to my containers. To add more interest to your container gardens, try incorporating pottery, figurines and sculptures. Buried bricks come in handy for elevating and leveling your favorite items. Be sure to leave plenty of room for plants to mature. Can’t wait to see how this container garden grows over the summer!
Gardening doesn’t have to be labor intensive. Container gardening is an easy fix for adding color and texture to any outdoor space. For more container gardening ideas check out Southern Living: 101 Container Gardening Ideas! Don’t know where to start? Just let us know we would love to help!
